Any sense of sadness or despair that lasts weeks or months and permeates your daily life causing nightmares or lack of sleep, appetite issues or draining you of energy or concentration should be addressed.

This could be signs of a mood disorder such as depression or a major depressive disorder.

Both adults and adolescents can become withdrawn from friends and family and stop participating in activities they once enjoyed.
